  • The return of the kamikaze

Remember when I told you about the kamikaze phenomenon about a year ago?

    .

    .

Well, I witnessed a highly enhanced version of it. On Dora highway. Which proves that our population is getting more and more enlightened.

    .

    .

Presenting.. the kamikaze family! "Yalla mama, when I say go, we run!"

    .

    .Go!

    .

    .

    Mother and children crossing highway

    .

.Mother pauses in middle of highway, wondering whether she should grab the papers dropped by her son. Cars around start panicking.

    .

.They eventually crossed the road. And the boy cried for his papers.

    .

.When will people wake up and smell the hazard of walking through a highway?

I was horrified to see a whole family crossing the highway (autostrade) by foot!! What was the mother thinking? Has common sense disappeared from humanity? She even had a “thinking break” right in the middle of the highway to contemplate whether she should take the papers dropped by her little kid! Suicidal! This is just beyond my understanding, and the scene has been replaying in my head for the last two days. It was that disturbing and does not make sense to me. Thought I’d start the week with some road awareness, we can never get enough of that! Road idiocy is born with humans apparently.

Here’s a song to brighten up your day by my very adored Nick Drake. “Time has told me”. And check the lyrics for extra beauty.

    Have a lovely week! 🙂

To all of you who did post the colours & details of their bras, no offense 🙂 It did add some spice and fun to Facebook – which has been getting boring after Twitter and all that jazz… But in my humble opinion, the campaign did not in any way raise awareness about cancer, it only got people discussing bra colors in flirty ways in the comments section.

Some interesting reads about the issue:

    Translation of Arabic sentences:

    “B3id el sharr: God forbid!

Sayer bi zahi2 hal TV: TV is so boring lately

Sketo Naji tole3 ma3o sida. la2to mnel philipiniyye: Rumour has it that Naji is HIV positive! He caught it from the domestic worker at his house.

Lah ya 7aram ya Rosanne. Shou hal ossa!: Oh no! Poor Rosanne.. What a disaster!”

So, today is World Aids Day 2009. In Lebanon, sex and all its derivatives are still rather taboo subjects. Besides, the not-so-alarming numbers of HIV-positive people makes the issue not-so-alarming comparing to other political or social problems. However, why wait until it is spread like in some other countries? The increasing sex-tourism approach to Lebanon, combined with the very high lack of STD awareness in Lebanon (mainly due to non-secular school systems) AIDS is very vulnerable to spread, and to spread fast. Let us not forget to raise awareness about it everytime we get the chance.

That was my humble participation to Blog Action Day ’09 whose topic for this year is Climate Change. Whenever I try bringing the issue up, I am faced with rejection/sarcasm/misunderstanding etc. I hope that today’s event will help raise awareness about the importance of such issues, especially in a country like Lebanon where it tends to be forgotten due to more pressing issues of political nature. Have a green day! 🙂
