You hit the spot: Lebanese look for any opportunity to divide themselves into categories and see who’s with who, who’s best, etc.
Now, the “adopt a team” thing is seen in a lot of countries during the World Cup, but over here the enthusiasm is just… well, it’s a bit much.
As for football itself, I don’t care for it, although I might watch a bit of a match – it can indeed get exciting.

Again, Maya, I think it a shame that you have to find yourself being apologetic upon every turn in which you mention Nazism. Nazism happened, and it continues to infatuate some Lebanese just as it does people all around the world, and those are facts regardless of our value judgement on them. We are so brain-washed on this issue that it makes me begin to question the liberalism of our thinking.
well Maya the swastika is actually considered as an insult to the Germans and a lot may not like it. ans apologizing while mentioning Nazism is a way of respecting the German’s majority that are against it.
but after all this is Lebanon and i think it is a shame that we don’t know what or who to follow or support…
and being liberal in your thinking doesn’t mean you have to insult others in such sensitive issues.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about “strawberry fields forever” i love that song!! one of my favorite beatle songs. Also I’m sure you’ve seen the manakeesh that are designed according to the flags… i thought that was gross. Personally not a fan of football, so the craze is kind of driving me nuts 😛
