That was my humble participation to Blog Action Day ’09 whose topic for this year is Climate Change. Whenever I try bringing the issue up, I am faced with rejection/sarcasm/misunderstanding etc. I hope that today’s event will help raise awareness about the importance of such issues, especially in a country like Lebanon where it tends to be forgotten due to more pressing issues of political nature. Have a green day! icon smile Let's talk about the weather (Blog Action Day'09)

    HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA this was HILARIOUS :D :D :D
thanks for the laughter in the morning

  2. Liliane

True.. people think I’m crazy when I talk about climate change :) Lebanon is definitely on the margin in this situation, it is scarcely participating in the negotioations, alla arab countries aren’t except for Saudi Arabia and Kuwait who… well… let’s face it, do not want any country to try and reduce their gas emissions because they WANNA SELL OIL..

Thank you btw :) loved the intro hehe

  3. Zouzeta

    Very true…
    we need some action

  4. Archangelus

    exactly !

  5. nayla

…as if this issue is a joke or something. dunno y people don’t take it seriously, it’s sad. but we gotta keep tryin :)

  6. darinerachkidy

    heheheheheheeeeeeeeeeeee….hilarious….
car safety, trees scarce , mountains turned flat, potable water scarce, sea and shore pollution, climate change… nobody cares, didn’t even notice.
most of the citizens are indifferent about almost everything except for partying……..!!!!

Ahahahahahahahahahahah Thanks for the laughter Maya!!!Each time we’re in beyrouth and behind an antique bus that’s puffing black smoke, my Dad goes “heyda véhicule hybride taba3 lebnen”, it’s so sad it’s almost funny :-)

  10. Hala

true, terrifying actually!! good one mayoush(K)

  11. Fadi

This is so (sadly) true (and hillarious). Brilliant post. Though it is not very easy to be “green” in Lebanon: you can’t not use a car – there isn’t any decent public transportation. You can’t recycle – there aren’t any recycling bin (or there may be some, but no one has ever heard of them). You can’t save electriciy – you only have for 10 hours a day.

So unless the government starts taking itself more seriously and start building an actual infrastructure for the country, the Lebanese people can’t do much about it (especially because i can’t picture that Burburry lady protesting on the streets to get some recycling bins in her neighborhood).

  12. Dayana

And I thought I was the only one being ridiculed when I say I have a small Japanese car to limit my emission of carbon dioxide! I think we need to launch an awareness campaign linking climate change to issues such as poverty, natural catastrophes etc…. People aren’t aware of the effect it has on EVERYTHING in our lives…

  13. JOBOX

    So funny
    thanks for your comment…
You know my opinion about this subject :O)

  14. mc

les dialogues associés à tes dessins sont simples et forts !!!!

extra celle qui se déshabille à cause du global warMing :) ))

  15. Tony

Well done maya as usual, really enjoyed checking this one out ^^
    Agreed on the “Warning” part

  16. Serpico

You know Maya, I wouldn’t say NO to global warming in Canada.

  17. Zerolando

What you’ve really been faced with while trying to bring the subject up is pure retarded ignorance…
People are irgnorant. Global warming is a factual scientific truth.
so go Maya kick some ass :D

  18. Tony Batal

Maya thanks for your creative post, it really highlights how “dear” citizens of Lebanon think toward such warnings…what really matters is “Party and food” (not addressing everyone thought but a good majority of people), w ahamma shi stay away from cultural and “IQ raising” events… <– these are Global Warnings for them :-)

  19. Riham

Oh I love this post so much. I find the reactions you made typically Lebanese!
I work with Lara, & today I showed her a picture of a burburry lady that she passed on to you. SHE EXISTS!

  20. Anis Tabet

ppl (lebanese ppl to be more specific) have no idea what global warming is or what it might do to our planet. Khalliyon mehtammin bel siyese and politicians. Gheir hek ma tes2aliyon shi. Nice post :)

  21. rolf

Just do like me, keep the A/C on. Keeps mosquitoes out too.

  22. بنجامين غِير

This is hilarious! Thank you for the laugh. My suggestion: let’s try to get OPEC to stop blocking international climate change negotiations.
